L'architecte japonais Shuhei Endo peut être défini en tant qu'architecte d'acier, puisqu'il favorise distinctement ce matériau dans les bâtiments qu'il conçoit, expérimentant continuellement avec ses possibilités infinies. Ses travaux sont apparemment légers et communiquent un sens de la liberté : des feuilles onduleuses d'acier sont tordues dans des spirales et enroulées autour des bâtiments dans des couches de recouvrement, comme des pétales des fleurs, ou arrangées à différents niveaux pour créer une membrane autour des espaces ouverts. Endo a conçu des bureaux, tels que Rooftecture N (Nisinomiya, Hyogo, 1998), ou des espaces pour la relaxation et les réunions, telles que Rooftecture T (Fukui, 1997), aussi bien que des propriétés privées, telles que Springtecture H (Harima, 1998) et Rooftecture M (Maruoka, 2001).
